What is Pre & Post Wax Care?

Here's some handy pre and post wax advice to help you get the most out of your wax.

Pre-Wax Advice
✅ Exfoliate – Gently exfoliate the area 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and loosen any ingrowns that may be forming.
✅ Hair Length Matters – Ensure hair is at least ¼ inch (about a grain of rice) for the wax to grip properly. Too short the wax won't grip and you will be charged for the appointment. Never trim before a wax.
✅ Stay Hydrated – Well-hydrated skin makes for a smoother wax and less irritation.
✅ Skip the Moisturiser – Avoid applying oils or lotions on the day of your wax as they can make it harder for the wax to grip the hair.
✅ Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol – These can make skin more sensitive, so best to avoid them a few hours before your appointment.
✅ Pain Relief (if needed) – If you’re concerned about discomfort, taking a mild painkiller 30-60 minutes before your wax can help.
✅ Stay Fresh & Clean – Shower before your appointment and wear loose, comfortable clothing.
✅ No retinoids, glycolic acids, peels or acne prescriptions for 10 days before facial waxing.

Post-Wax Care
❌ No Touching! – Keep hands off the waxed area to prevent bacteria from causing breakouts or irritation.
❌ Avoid Heat & Sweat – No hot showers, saunas, sunbeds, or intense exercise for at least 24-48 hours to prevent irritation.
✅ Wear Loose Clothing – Tight clothing can cause friction and irritation, especially after intimate or body waxing.
✅ Moisturise Daily – After 24 hours, keep skin hydrated with a fragrance-free moisturiser to maintain softness.
✅ Exfoliate (But Gently!) – Start gentle exfoliation 2-3 days after waxing (and repeat every few days) to prevent ingrown hairs.
❌ No Fake Tan or Harsh Products – Avoid tanning lotions, scrubs, perfumed products, and deodorants on freshly waxed skin for 24-48 hours.
✅ SPF is a Must! – If the waxed area is exposed to the sun, apply SPF 30+ to protect the skin from UV damage.

Following this advice will reduce irritation, extend smoothness, and prevent ingrown hairs—making your waxing experience as comfortable as possible!

Aftercare Products

I stock a selection of highly effective, gentle and reasonably priced aftercare products designed to enhance your waxing results and keep your skin in top condition. These products are specially chosen to soothe, hydrate, and protect freshly waxed skin, helping prevent irritation, redness, and ingrown hairs. I’ve done the research so you can trust that everything on my shelf is formulated to give you the best possible results between appointments.

Preventing ingrown hairs is all about consistent care. Regular exfoliation—starting 2-3 days post-wax—helps keep dead skin cells from trapping new hair growth under the skin. Use a gentle scrub such as Ruff Stuff Daily Scrub or an exfoliating cloth (both sold by me) a few times a week, and keep the area well-moisturized to maintain soft, healthy skin. Avoid tight clothing that can irritate freshly waxed areas, and if an ingrown does appear, resist picking to avoid irritation or scarring.

Daily moisturising after waxing is essential for keeping your skin smooth, hydrated, and irritation-free. By nourishing your skin with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser, you’ll help maintain elasticity and softness, making it easier for new hair to grow through without getting trapped. Regular hydration also soothes any post-wax sensitivity, helping you enjoy longer-lasting, smoother results between appointments. I sell a range of cream and oil moisturisers which are all designed for your post-wax aftercare.

Some Helpful Info.

If you're new to waxing, welcome or returning to waxing, welcome back! Your first experience may involve a bit of discomfort, especially if you're used to shaving, but so many find the results well worth it.
After your first wax, you might still notice some hair, and that’s completely normal! Here’s why: Hair grows in different stages and waxing only removes hair that’s in the active growth phase. Some hairs might still be growing underneath the skin and will appear shortly after your wax. The more you wax, the more your hair growth syncs up, meaning fewer strays and longer-lasting smoothness. After 3-4 regular waxes, you’ll see a big difference especially in the prickly regrowth that shaving leaves behind.

Over time, as you wax regularly, hair grows back finer and sparser, making each session a little easier than the last.

The frequency of waxing appointments depends on your hair growth cycle and personal preferences, but generally, I recommended scheduling your waxing appointments every 4 to 6 weeks. This allows enough time for the hair to grow to the ideal length for waxing. Waxing can help reduce hair density, meaning you may find that you need to wax less often as your hair becomes finer and grows back slower.

Please don't tweeze, epilate or shave between waxes. You need to allow the hair to grow so it’s at an ideal length to be waxed at your next appointment.
